Bookkeeper/Assistant Controller

Part-time with option to transition to Full-time

Lafayette American, a creative agency in Detroit, MI is seeking a talented accounting professional to participate in all accounting and finance functions as they evolve with the growth of the Agency. The candidate must be:

  • Self-motivated and detail oriented

  • Inspired by working in a creative environment

  • Capable of working independently and handling several projects concurrently

  • Comfortable presenting to senior management

This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer.

Responsibilities:

  • Management of accounts receivables and payables including on-boarding of new customers, vendors and contractors

  • Prepare accurate journal entries, bank reconciliations, and month-end close activities

  • Monitor and verify that transactions are properly recorded in the general ledger

  • Process payroll in a timely manner and administer employee benefits; assist in the management of expense reports

  • Assist the CFO with preparation of all budgets, revenue projections and cash flow analysis for the executive team

  • Assist the CFO with implementing and maintaining internal financial controls and procedures

  • Perform special projects and prepare ad hoc operational and financial analyses as required by senior management

Skills / Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of bookkeeping/accounting experience

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in accounting, finance or business required

  • Public accounting experience a plus

  • Solid analytical skills

  • High energy level and desire to work in a fast-paced startup environment

  • Proficient in QuickBooks, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
